Popular spots include the 85-acre riverside Alvaston Park and the 207-acre Markeaton Park, which is one of the most visited parks in the East Midlands. On top of this, there are several National Trust sites as you branch further out into Derbyshire, such as Calke Abbey and Hardwick Hall. The Peak District is also a 30-minute drive away if you want to explore further afield. Derby city centre is home to several high-street shops, many of which are found in the Derbion shopping centre. If you want to expand your retail pool, simply hop on a 30-minute train ride to Nottingham.

Getting around Derby

Situated in the heart of the Midlands, Derby is a well-connected city. You can reach Nottingham in just over 30 minutes along the A52 and Birmingham in just over an hour along the A38. Alternatively, you can reach these nearby cities by train in approximately half an hour. If you head north of Derby, you'll reach Sheffield in just over an hour in the car or 30 minutes by train.


Planning to catch a flight? You can reach East Midlands Airport within a 20-minute drive or by train to Long Eaton station, where you can get the Skylink bus to the airport.
