On Wednesday 4th December, the team at Greenwich Millennium Village (GMV) were joined by the children of Millennium Primary School alongside JV partners Countryside Homes (part of Vistry Group) and Taylor Wimpey to unveil a vibrant new piece of local artwork.
Designed to improve the local aesthetic whilst construction works take place on the newest phase at GMV, schoolchildren from Millennium Primary School were asked to create artwork that would brighten up the hoarding and provide a colourful insight into the their lives, environment and local community.
In preparation for this exciting project, a hands-on workshop took place at the school in November. Under the guidance of the GMV team, children had the opportunity to create their unique design using different art materials. Children in the younger years were asked to create a picture that represents them, from a handprint to a picture of themselves. The juniors were split into two groups; years 3 and 4 created artwork about the environment, whilst years 5 and 6 created art that represents the community. Once complete, each piece of artwork has been used to digitally create the colourful hoarding, in the shape of rainbows.
Speaking of the project, Rachel Mollett, Executive Headteacher at Millennium Primary School comments: "This project has been a wonderful experience for our students. The children have shown incredible enthusiasm, and they are so proud to see their work showcased in such a public and meaningful way. We are grateful to the team at Greenwich Millennium Village for giving us the opportunity to be involved, and for highlighting the importance of our school within the community."
